Life Cycle of Renewal: Adopted

APRIL - JUNE VARIOUS

As we transition from the Beloved quarter of our annual Lifecycle of Renewal into the Adopted quarter, we meditate on how we’re called to not just see others with dignity and value, as fully accepted and beloved by God, but also as those adopted into the family of our Father. We’re created in the image of an adopting father, so we too should adopt—whether in the literal sense of adopting a child or individual or in other ways that position us to come alongside and provide tangible support to children, families, and any individuals experiencing the loss of community.

The city of Los Angeles has the largest number of children in its foster care system than any other city in the U.S. This high number is often due to a lack of resources and support and nowhere near enough families to provide a home for those without one. We live in a city of orphans that God loves and wants cared for.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world” (James 1:27).

This quarter provides us with opportunities to learn more about this crisis, connect and wrap around families within our church who’ve already entered into this work, and engage the ways God might be calling us as individuals and as a church to love the literal and figurative orphans of our city the way our father, God did for us.
