James 1:27 commands us to care for orphans, and when it comes to the world’s & our city’s orphan crisis there is a place for everyone in every stage of life to help! But we cannot engage best in this endeavor without having understanding, compassion, and specific skills to love and serve this population holistically. In our efforts to serve and love like Jesus, we’ve partnered with Show Hope (formerly known as Empowered to Connect) to bring free and easily-accessible specialized training through their Hope for the Journey Conference for anyone interested in or currently interacting in any capacity with adopting families or children in the foster system.

May 20 and/or May 21, we will dive into the principles of Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®), a care model that has guided their work for more than 19 years now. TBRI works to promote trust and connection between caregivers and children by addressing physical and emotional needs while also disarming fear-based behavior. While TBRI may be perceived as clinical in nature as it involves the complexities of science, Show Hope sees TBRI as an expression of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Through practical teaching and insight coupled with personal perspectives, attendees will find the resources and hope needed to continue or even begin to journey well with children and families impacted by adoption and/or foster care.

Not an adoptive or foster caregiver? That’s okay! If you come into contact with such children and families in any way (church, community groups, work, or by way of outreach) this is for you, too. You will gain a better understanding of those serving these children and families and their complex needs along with resources to equip you in your walk with them.

Attendees can watch virtually and can choose from one of the following viewing options:

Option A: All Day (Saturday, May 20)
• Part 1 (Modules 1-3): 8:30AM-2:30PM
• Lunch: 2:30-3PM
• Part 2 (Modules 4 & 5): 3-6:30PM

Option B: Saturday, May 20 AND Sunday, May 21
• Part 1 on Saturday (Modules 1-3): 8:30AM-2:30PM
• Part 2 on Sunday (Modules 4 & 5): 1-4:15PM*

There are a bundle of resources provided to you after registering to enhance your viewing and learning experience, including workbooks. Workbooks can be provided digitally or physically. If you prefer a hard copy, please register no later than Thursday, May 11 in order to ensure your workbook arrives in time.
