Community is an essential part of life. We build community out of common interests in order to find support, companionship, and encouragement. But sin sabotages our ability to care for each other as God intended.

Thankfully, through the gospel of Jesus Christ we are reconciled to God and are therefore a community of redeemed people Ephesians 2:4-5. We are free to build community on the foundation of Jesus Christ without bias or prejudice. It’s important to understand this about the Church in general and community groups in particular.

Each community group is made up of people who live as ministers of reconciliation in their local context, encouraging one another and serving their community in love, humility, and the power of the Holy Spirit.

While each group has its own personality and weekly rhythms, the central community event is the night of Bible study and prayer. Community group Bible study is based on the biblical text that was preached on the preceding Sunday. The goal is to apply the text to our lives James 1:22 and to work out conviction together through confession, repentance, prayer James 5:16, and accountability Hebrews 3:12-13.
