For most of us, work (paid or unpaid) is our single biggest time commitment every week, meaning our work is the main context through which we follow Jesus, love one another, and serve Los Angeles. Work is important.

Which is why we’re excited to offer a seven-week faith and work course in partnership with the Center for Faith and Work LA!

This vocational course applies to any vocation (including parenting, volunteering, etc.) and will focus on biblically-based topics to gain insight concerning God’s intention for our work. Together, we will explore what it means to integrate our faith and work in meaningful ways, challenge the idols and cultural narratives we face, and address the brokenness of our vocational worlds. We will be utilizing spiritual practices and group discussion in community.

WEEK 1 – The Creation/Cultural Mandate and Work

• Welcome/introductions
• Introducing the need for exploring integration the of faith and work
• The disconnect in our “theology of life;” removing the sacred/secular divide

WEEK 2 – The Fall’s Effect on Work

• Considering The Fall’s effect on work

WEEK 3 – Redemption and Work

• Christ’s work redeems our work
— What we are saved “from”
— The nature of Christ’s work
— What we are saved “for”

WEEK 4 – Receiving our Calling for Life’s Work

• The nature of “calling”
• Exploring how God calls us and how that relates to our work
• Discerning our “call”

WEEK 5 – Restoration and Work

• Envisioning God’s final restoration and why that changes how we view what we do today at work

WEEK 6 – Exilic Discipleship in the World of Work

• God’s call to love fallen creation and culture
• Promoting God’s Kingdom through our work in a pluralistic post-Christian society

WEEK 7 – Rest
