Rebuilding for Renewal
It is an exciting time at Reality LA as we prepare to renovate the Hope Center and church office building.
The aim is to carry out our mission more effectively and make good use of the buildings that have served us well but have significant limitations.
Our congregational survey earlier this year revealed seven key questions that many people in the congregation are asking. So before we “rebuild for renewal,” we’re going to work on the foundation a bit to make sure that we’re all unified moving forward. In other words, we want to raise awareness before we raise money.
Check this page for weekly updates through September and October as we unpack the seven questions below, addressing one each week through family talks at our Sunday gatherings, Drop In podcast episodes, various events, and videos!
• What is the story of the Hope Center?
• What is the condition of the buildings?
• How do Reality LA and Serve LA relate?
• How does investing centrally enhance regional ministry?
• What does the staff do?
• How does a capital campaign work?
• How should we think about giving?
What is the story of the Hope Center?
When Reality LA was given the buildings at Fountain and Edgemont in 2019, their story became our story! Let’s look back and celebrate what God has done so we can be good stewards moving forward.
What is the condition of the buildings?
Our buildings are beautiful but they are old and broken down to the point that our current operations in them are not sustainable. Let’s check out how the condition of the buildings is holding us back from fulfilling our mission in really practical ways.
How do Reality LA and Serve LA relate?
Reality LA and Serve LA have an ongoing partnership that is rooted in our shared history and vision as we serve the city together. Let’s explore what it means for both organizations to mutually partner on a practical level.
How does investing centrally enhance regional ministry?
We gather for worship and we scatter for mission. Let’s explore how our city-wide church model has central and regional functions, which are not in competition of one another, but rather fit together in supporting our mission to make disciples in Los Angeles.
What does the staff do?
The purpose of church staff comes from Ephesians 4:12 “to equip the saints for the work of ministry.” We have organized our staff by our mission: making disciples who follow Jesus, love one another, and serve Los Angeles. So how does the staff equip the saints and what do they do?
How does a capital campaign work?
What is a capital campaign? What is our approach, and how will it work practically? For some of us, this may be our first time experiencing a capital campaign. For others, we may have expectations from a past experience. Let’s explore the specifics of how the campaign will work here at Reality LA!
How should we think about giving?
We often approach giving with a transactional mindset, giving in order to get. But what does it look like for us to have a transformational mindset, giving to be transformed and to participate in God’s work of transformation?
How can we renovate and utilize the buildings to best fulfill the mission God has given us?
Through September and October, we’ve addressed the seven key questions that arose from our congregational survey, but one question remains about the renovation: How can we reconfigure the space to maximize our mission of making disciples who follow Jesus, love one another, and serve Los Angeles?
