At a church service when he was eight years old, Alan heard a pastor preaching about Christ’s love and forgiveness of sins. Alan thought, “Yeah, I need that and I want that.” He joined a Christian youth group and was active through high school but in college he walked away from church. One night, God called him out on his behavior and reminded Alan who he was in Jesus and that his life was not his own. The verses of 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 came vividly to life and Alan decided to give all of himself to Jesus. He joined a college ministry and learned how to read and study the Bible. The seeds of faith planted when he was child began to grow!
Alan’s path to Los Angeles led him through Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Arizona before ending at USC. While working in the Apple store at the Grove he met his future wife, Heaven, by helping set up her phone. They began attending Reality LA together and when Alan heard of the need for volunteers, he once again said “Yes” to serve the community where he’s continuing his journey of faith.
After earning a graduate degree in urban planning, he went to work for the City of Los Angeles. Alan loves God, his wife and daughter, and soccer. He enjoys the diversity of people and food in LA and how this city is always changing.
