John Travis was raised by a single mother in the piney woods of Tyler, Texas. He accepted the Gospel in high school, but spent the better part of the next ten years disappointed in himself for not being perfect and angry with God for not “doing His part.” In addition, John was suffering from a pretty epic battle with anxiety.
After graduating from Duke University with a degree in Comparative Area Studies (yes, really), John worked in management consulting in New York and for a film producer in Los Angeles. As required by anyone moving to Southern California, he started a beach soccer company and also tried his hand at screenwriting.
During this time, God slowly but graciously opened John’s eyes to a better understanding of who He is and how He works. God continues to father John through these practical applications of life, and the process of purging self-righteous legalism and faulty expectations continues!
John discovered Reality LA through podcasts a few months after it started in 2006. He quickly began helping out in all things financial, legal, and corporate and now spends most of his time putting out various fires in the office.
John currently resides in Hollywood, and at this point can manipulate spreadsheets by just staring at them intently. He's also finally learning to surf.
